Install GumbyOps as an app
GumbyOps isn’t in an app store. It runs in your web browser, and you add it to your phone’s Home Screen or your computer’s Dock or Start menu so it opens like any other app. It takes about a minute, and you only do it once.
Which app do you need?
There are two apps, at two addresses:
| You are | Open this address | The app is called |
|---|---|---|
| Crew, on your phone | ops.gumbyworks.com/field | GumbyOps |
| Office staff, usually on a computer | ops.gumbyworks.com | GumbyOps Office |
- Crew clock in and out, add notes and photos, and chat with their team in the field app.
- Office staff schedule crews, set up jobs and people, and approve time in the office console. If you’re in the office and also clock in, you can install both.
Steps for your device
- iPhone and iPad: Safari, or Chrome on iOS 16.4 or later
- Android: Chrome
- Mac: Safari (macOS Sonoma or later), Chrome or Edge
- Windows: Edge or Chrome
Why install it
- It opens like an app, from its own icon, with no address bar or tabs.
- Notifications need it. The field app asks to send notifications only once it’s installed. On iPhone and iPad, notifications for either app work only from the Home Screen app.
- It’s the same app. Installing doesn’t change your data or your sign-in on Android, Windows or in Chrome and Edge on a Mac. On iPhone, iPad and in Safari on a Mac, the installed app keeps its own sign-in, so you sign in once inside it.
How to tell you’re in the installed app
- There’s no address bar and no tabs. On a phone, the app fills the screen. On a computer, it has its own window and its own icon in the Dock or taskbar.
- In the field app, if you see a screen that says “Add GumbyOps to your Home Screen”, you’re in the browser, not the installed app. Open GumbyOps from your Home Screen instead.
- In the field app’s Me tab, under Notifications, “They work only in the app on your Home Screen” also means you’re in the browser.
Updates
You never need to reinstall. When there’s a new version, the app shows “New version available” with a Restart button: at the bottom of the field app, above the tabs, and at the top of the office console. You can keep working and restart when it suits you; the new version also loads the next time you fully close and reopen the app. The version you’re running is at the bottom of the field app’s Me tab and of the console’s menu.
